I'm flattered that you care :) My absence was caused by a stuff up by my hosting provider, and their subsequent ignoring of the ticket raised.

I'd rather use the ampersand and then mdash; rather than memorise numbers. Also for ldquo; rdquo;, etc.

You're right, the mdash entity does map to #8212 in both HTML and XHTML, so is much easier to use.
